How to spot a counterfeit Canon 50mm lens?

After receiving several counterfeit lenses seeking repairs in their company service centers Canon have output a note warning potential clients how to spot if the lens are fake or the real deal.

The counterfeit versions are largely identical in appearance but there are small differences between both products.

For whatever reason, counterfeit Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lenses can be identified by the "Canon Inc" company name molded into the mount. Original Canon lenses feature a space between the words "Canon" and "Inc" while the counterfeit lenses don´t.
